portland escher show wow

blogger confuses me..... last time i realised that the images got added on one above the other.......... so the first pix you upload goes on the bottom, and this in time is usually first in what you did.. if that makes any sense..... anyway, there was this escher show at the portland art museum.........couldnt give up the opportunity of seeing his work in person..... the details on the wood cut were absolutely amazing
the brochure says the exhibitoin examines the pictorial devices escher used to create fantasies of metamorphosing forms, intersecting worlds and impossible structures....
those images of staircases going up up and up and down at the same time
got a few pix cause was told by the guard that you cant take pictures... managed some...
there were many of his ink drawings used to develop his themes and this was really interesting.. there was so much study which went into the final wood cut.. there were two of is wood cuts there, cancelled by putting a hole through it.... the detail on this is impossibe to describe...

the famous long long print which goes from metamorphposis (the word) through birds fish shapes back to word........... viky had got the ldea of getting escher store in portland and said he had a running print of this which all around the room...not available in portland now unfortunately

at mary lous house.bhim uncles wife... i came to reed thanks to him, so wanted to express my thanks and also convey to her that i had given a talk at reed... she lives alone in a 5 acre farm away from everything... good example for me, she has had a hip replacement and was alone in this farm with a college student coming in to help for one hour a day

viky brother his wife nalini bhim uncles kids lisa and raj... and me... raj is really gud looking... has a plane and he offered to take me for a ride.... unfortunately no time.... he is currently going through a divorce......... lisa and hubby and kid are on a farm with horses, her love and passion about 4 hours from portland..she works at zerox.. we had a really pleasant evening nalini made excellent kababs and fish curry....

my freind janet..... she had invited me to live with her family for a summer,in 1967 which i did... it was wonderful...they live in lake oswego, had a boat and i used to go water sking...sasha and ashi have been there.. janets father had taken viky and me on a plane ride on top of the volcano mt helens .........janet is now a retired doctor and into music and glass ware..here she is holding a plate she has made,. its really lovely... unfortunately could not go to see her studio... too little time.... so boy

janet also makes these lovely picture books into like coffe table books just for her freinds and family.she lays it out and gets it published from some company which does 4 or 5 copies... lovely idea which i hope to pursue in india

janet and me with janets mom... she is now 80 and lives alone in the same house. american women cntinue to amaze me with their energy and work.........

one evening in portland there was a krishna das show....... i had one of his tapes in mumbai and pune and liked.he does kirtans he does one line then audience follows..... combination of indian kirtans tablas little western beat.... aazing htere were 1000 americans there singing sitaram dancing in the aisels, young and old.......... many had never been to india but were singing and dancing in real abandonment...concert went on for 3 hours in a church.....
